Installing XI 3.1 and LCM 3.1 with SP2

A quick post to help those that have been having issues installing XI 3.1 and LCM 3.1 with SP2 on the Windows platform.

It is important that the products be installed in the correct order, otherwise you will have issues with your install.

The correct order should be:

BOE XI 3.1 -> LCM XI 3.1 -> BOE XI 3.1 SP2 -> LCM XI 3.1 SP2

Any fix packs that you want to apply after that must also be done in a similar order. So if you install FP 2.2 for BOE XI 3.1, ensure you install FP 2.2 for LCM XI 3.1, etc.

Hope this helps some of you.

    Thanks for your blog and the theme installing XI 3.1 and LCM 3.1 with SP2. Our environment is set up with BOE XI 3.1 SP 2, and now we have to install LCM, which have not been installed yet. Not the correct procedure when I read your blog! Is there a workaround instead of reinstalling BOE XI SP2 – installing LCM XI 3.1 – BOE XI SP2 – LCM XI 31. SP2?

      David. I’ve previously received errors when installing LCM ‘out of sync’. It took a while to figure it out. It’s only when we tried it step by step, patch by patch, that we figured out a way to get something that worked.

      I’m not saying that there is a right or a wrong way of doing it. This is simply a post to tell people how we did it, and how it overcame some issues.

      Do you have a test box you could try it out on? Try installing LCM on top of XI 3.1 SP2. You may find it works in your environment. But don’t hold your breath!

      In an ideal world, you should be able to load LCM plus SP1 and SP2 on top on an existing XI 3.1 SP2 install. Just didn’t seem to work for us.

      Good luck, and let us know how you got on. Your experience will help others that might be in a similar situation.
